Privacy Policy
Last updated:
BookLocal is operated by Future Proof Designers LLC.
This policy explains what information BookLocal handles when you book an appointment with a business that uses BookLocal, or when shop owners and staff use their BookLocal account.
Who this applies to
BookLocal is booking software operated by Future Proof Designers LLC. Businesses such as barbershops and salons use it to take and manage appointments. This policy covers information handled through the BookLocal booking pages and the BookLocal dashboard.
Information we collect
When you book. The information you enter or choose during booking:
- your name and email address, and your phone number if you choose to give one;
- the service, staff member, date and time you select, and the booking's status and confirmation details;
- your messaging choices — whether you agreed to text messages and whether you agreed to marketing emails or texts (see “Text messages and SMS consent records” below).
Payments. If a business takes a deposit or payment at booking, card details are entered with our payment provider, Stripe, and are processed by Stripe. BookLocal receives the result of the payment and related booking details, not your full card number.
Shop owner and staff accounts. Name, email address and sign-in details for people who use the BookLocal dashboard, and the business settings they enter.
Technical information. Basic technical information such as browser type, the pages requested and error diagnostics, used to run and secure the service. When an error occurs, our error monitoring may record a limited, masked recording of the page session to help us fix it; text and form inputs are masked.
How we use information
- to create, confirm, change and cancel bookings, and to take payments the business asks for;
- to send booking-related emails and, only where you have opted in, text messages;
- to keep records of your communication choices, including consent and opt-outs;
- to operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the service, and to prevent misuse;
- to respond to requests, and to meet legal obligations.
Text messages and SMS consent records
Text messages are sent only if you opt in. Service and reminder texts and marketing texts are separate consents, each optional and unchecked by default. We keep a record of your choice — whether you opted in or out, when, and where the choice was made (for example, the booking page) — as proof of consent and to honour your choices.
We also keep a record of the text messages sent to you on a business's behalf and their delivery status, and of any opt-out (STOP) or opt-in (START) request you send.
We do not sell your phone number or your consent, and we do not share them with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers and message content are shared only with the service providers that deliver the messages for us (see below). For how texting works, including STOP and HELP, see SMS Messaging & Consent.
Businesses and their customers
The business you book with provides the service you booked and decides what it needs your information for. BookLocal provides the software the business uses to hold its bookings, customer records and messaging choices. A business may also have its own privacy practices, which apply to how it uses the information you give it.
Service providers and infrastructure
We use service providers to run BookLocal. They handle information only as needed to provide their service to us:
- payment processing (Stripe);
- text message delivery (Twilio);
- email delivery (Resend);
- hosting, sign-in and database infrastructure (Vercel and Supabase);
- error monitoring (Sentry);
- calendar synchronization (Google), only where a business or staff member chooses to connect it.
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect rights, safety and security.
Communications
We and the businesses that use BookLocal send booking-related emails, such as confirmations and reminders. Marketing emails are sent only if you opted in, and each includes a way to unsubscribe. Text messages are covered above and in SMS Messaging & Consent.
Security
We use administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect information, including keeping each business's records separate from other businesses' and restricting access to what is needed to run the service. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as it is needed to provide the service, keep records of bookings and consent, resolve disputes, enforce our terms and meet legal obligations. A business controls the customer records in its own account.
Your choices
- Text messages: reply STOP to opt out at any time. Opting out of texts does not stop you from booking or managing an appointment.
- Marketing emails: use the unsubscribe link in the email. Appointment confirmations and reminders about existing bookings are separate.
- Your information: to ask what a business holds about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, contact the business you booked with. If you contact us, we will help route or act on your request where we are responsible for the information.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. Where a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to make it visible.
